Founders' Private Cellar - 13 Year Old English Brandy Cask

Our Founder’s Private Cellar is an extremely rare release - a bottling that only happens when a cask has exceeded our high expectations of rich character and depth. We are incredibly proud each time we release one of these exceptional casks from the cellar, a tradition started by our founder, James Nelstrop.

This is a truly unique bottling and a first for us. Many years ago we were fortunate enough to have met the founders of Moorlynch Somerset Brandy before they retired. Having bottled their last two casks of aged Brandy, we filled the casks with our whisky and left them to sleep. This bottling is the first we have ever done with single malt matured in a brandy cask. The results are tremendous, with the whisky taking on lots of aromas and tastes from the apples and brandy.

The nose

Aromas of orchard fruits, cinnamon, slight clove, sweet caramel, slight aniseed, citrus peel.

The palate

Orchard fruits (more pear), the aniseed comes out with the addition of water, digestive biscuit, and a buttery texture.

The finish

Medium to long dry finish, with a lingering but gentle pepperiness.

Non-chill filtered. Natural colouring.
